There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

John is usually identified as “the disciple whom Jesus loved,” a designation found often in the gospel he wrote. Jesus trusts John so fully that He gave him the responsibility of caring for His mother after the crucifixion. John leans in repose next to Jesus at the Last Supper.
While Peter and James join him in the inner circle, John’s relationship with Jesus is unique. He is the only disciple to escape a martyr’s death and the only disciple present at the cross. Sensitive and philosophical, John may have understood more about the love of Jesus than anyone who ever lived.
Late in life, John wrote a letter classifying love as God’s essential characteristic. Christian friend, God loves you. Let that sink in deeply. God. Loves. You. There is nothing to fear.
