Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”
Luke 12:15, NASB
The notion that God wants every Christian to enjoy worldly wealth is clearly disputed in the lifestyle and teaching of Jesus. Yet every Sunday in congregations all over America, we hear preachers spew such nonsense without ever doing anything to stop it. Perhaps we can learn something from our brothers and sisters in Tarkwa, Ghana, where Rev. Kelvin Kwesi Kobiri promised a great fortune to church members if they would give everything they had to God. When they did, he squandered the money on a Range Rover worth fifty times the country’s per capita income. Upset that he lied to them and took their money, they tracked him down, dragged him from the vehicle, and beat him to a pulp. We generally put them on television.
