Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord,
But those who deal truthfully are His delight.
Proverbs 12:22, NKJV
In the late nineteen eighties, the New York based computer hacking group Masters of Deception engaged in dumpster diving activities to discover passwords and illegally access computer databases. Today cybercrime costs the American economy one hundred billion dollars every year. Although most people would never claim the title, we are all, undoubtedly, masters of deception. Ever since Eve claimed in the garden that God had forbidden even touching the fruit, we have been stretching the truth, distorting the facts, and faking the news. We lie to others in order to cover our tracks or embellish our achievements. We lie to ourselves, through denial avoiding painful realities that we would do better to hold up to the light of God’s Word. The biggest lie, perhaps, is that the act of lying is something only other people do.
