Remember Lot’s wife.
Luke 17:32, NKJV
Most of us become nostalgic occasionally. We look back on our younger years and remember a period when our obligations were few, our bodies were strong, our judgment was immature, and our free time was plentiful. What a dangerous combination! Growing older may not make us holy but it certainly affords us less of the time and energy required for misbehavior.
As she fled from the destruction of Sodom, Lot’s wife made the mistake of looking back at the city. She turned into a pillar of salt and experienced the same death sentence as her former partners in debauchery. Deep down, she yearned for the wicked ways of Sodom.
If your past does not include the sowing of wild oats, give thanks for all the pain you avoided. But if it does, realize these were not your best years. Glory days are consumed with a holy God and not with the sin He despises.
