Lamp Light

For You are my lamp, O Lord; The Lord shall enlighten my darkness.
2 Samuel 22:29, NKJV

Last night I read of a Pastor in California who took his life. Although I had heard of him, I did not know him personally. He was thirty years old with a precious wife and two adorable children. A popular preacher and author, from every outward appearance, he had it all.

Weeks ago I learned of a Pastor in Kentucky who attempted suicide. Thankfully, emergency medical teams were able to rescue him. This Pastor is a friend with whom I’ve met, spoken, prayed, and served over the past several years. His ministry and family were flourishing.

Amazing men of God like Job, Elijah, David, Jonah, Moses, Jeremiah, and even Jesus would often experience deep anguish. Sadly, we suffer in this fallen world, but when the shadows come, the light of the Lord penetrates the darkest night. He is our Lamp. He is our Hope.
