By Heart

Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
Psalm 119:11, NKJV

When it comes to the learning process, we use the phrase “by heart” to mean that we know something “from memory.” Perhaps you have learned the lines for a character in a play. At your first rehearsal, you likely held the script in your hand and read the part in a forthright manner. Over time you became more familiar with your lines, adding an accent, inflections, and other dramatic nuances. You were able to put the script down. You knew it by heart.

God’s Word can be internalized in the very same way. If we know His truth by heart, we can recite it during every scene of every act for the rest of our lives. If we will learn our lines, we may not always have a Bible in our hands, but we can always have God’s Word in our hearts.
